We
will be travelling with Travel Europe on their top of the range Setra coach, which is air suspended with reclining seats,
tinted windows, climate control and webasto heating. There is
a DVD player, toilet and washroom and a hostess service is provided.
On the coach there are only 40 seats instead of the usual 49 thus
providing extra leg room for your comfort. Travel rugs are
also provided for our passengers to use. Smoking is not
permitted on the coach but we do have plenty of comfort breaks.
Accommodation
is on a half board basis, staying at the Hotel Rauthhof in Kematen. All rooms are
traditionally
furnished and have private facilities, most have balconies. A lift
services all floors. The residents dining room is beautifully
furnished in traditional Austrian style. The food is excellent with a garni type breakfast
and for the evening meal there is a well presented Tyrolean menu.
Vegetarians are well catered for. The hotel has a separate heated
ski and boot room.
Swimming in Axams, a Tyrolean evening at the hotel, kegel bowling in Axams, quizzes, music and dance evening, candlelit dinner and a presentation night are amongst the activities we organise.
We
plan 3 days skiing the Stubai glacier (Stubai valley), 1 day at the
Pitztal glacier (Mittleburg valley) and 1 day at the Hintertux
glacier (Ziller valley).
There is a lot of good skiing on the glaciers for beginners and most instructors speak good English. There are wide gentle pistes and easy drag lifts for your first days on skis. As you improve there is more choice of pistes of varying difficulties for you to try.
The choice of blue and red runs is limitless within the scope of the average holiday. As our coach will be going to 3 different glaciers over the week, there is every opportunity to improve and put miles under your skis.
The vast scale of the
glaciers in the Austrian Tyrol means that most advanced skiers will find plenty to do and enjoy.
In the valley the weather conditions can be very warm, but on the mountains, conditions although mostly very sunny, are considerably colder. We must advise that all exposed skin is covered with a high factor sun cream and lip salve (ie factor 25/50) due to the strong ultraviolet rays at such high altitude (10,000 feet or more). Good quality goggles and/or glasses are also a must.
There
are many non-skiing activities for those who do not wish to ski.
For example, you could enjoy walking, mountain biking, bike touring
or one of the many tourist attractions including the alpine zoo or
Bergisel Park with the famous ski jump which operates all year
round. Or you could visit the world famous Swarovski crystal
factory at Wattens. The walking in the Austrian Tyrol is some
of the best in Europe with walks for all abilities. Mountain
bikes can be hired locally to the hotel with trails up and down the
valley. The recent redevelopment of the Hungerburg cable car
gives the non-skier the chance to go from Innsbruck city centre to
the top of the Hafeleker (2256m) in 30 minutes, giving stunning
views across the Inn valley. The excellent public transport
system means there are many other places to visit including
Salzburg, Kitzbuhel and Mayrhofen. There is a steam railway
from Mayrhofen which connects to the main railway at Jenbach.
